The Early Outreach Conference (REACH) is a USC-affiliated leadership conference for youth that takes place in May for youth in the city of London. The conference targets grade 7 and 8 students that feed into high schools with high dropout rates. The conference recognizes that many students decide their future educational pathways at an early age in hopes that this conference provides youth with information and tools to help them make well-informed decisions.
This application is recruiting Western students undergraduate and graduate students to be Leadership Developers (LDs). LDs are put into pairs of two, and assigned a small group of grade 7 & 8 delegates where they act as leaders and mentors. At REACH, the delegates will learn about the different avenues they can pursue with respect to their education and receive guidance and motivation from both their LDs and guest speakers. In addition, LD’s provide the delegates with a positive perception about challenging and empowering themselves and REACHing their full potential.
Reach is a 3-day overnight conference that is tentatively planned to occur on a weekend in May. Aside from mandatory attendance to the conference, as an LD you will be required to attend two mandatory in-person training sessions at the end of February and Beginning of March.
If you have any questions about the conference or the role of an LD, please do not hesitate to email Kaliegh, Megan, and Molly at earlyoutreach.ldd@westernusc.ca.
Important Information:
- Interviews for successful applicants will take place in person, the first week of January.
- All LDs will be required to obtain a Police Vulnerable Sector Check at a subsidized rate of $15.00. If you have previously completed this screening for a job or volunteer opportunity within the last 2 years this will also be accepted.
- If you are successful in receiving an interview, you will be asked to prepare a 2-3 minute creative that shows off your personality or interests. It can be a song/dance, painting, joke, a skit, tiktok, powerpoint etc – really anything that helps us get to know you better!
