Position Overview: The Deputy Returning Officer (DRO) is the second governing figure in the administration of USC elections collaborating with the Chief Returning Officer. Deputy Speaker: The Deputy Speaker of Council (DSC) is responsible for assisting the Speaker in ensuring the rules of Council are upheld, and that each Councillor is treated equally and fairly. The DSC reports directly to the Speaker of Council. A successful candidate will have a strong interest in student government as well as policies and procedures. They must have strong problem solving skills and the ability to adapt to different situations as well as strong interpersonal skills. Students with experience as a camp counsellor, lifeguard, or similar role may be a good fit for this role. This role requires a detail-oriented individual who thrives in a rule-driven environment and is committed to maintaining procedural integrity. Position Description: Working alongside USC staff and student leaders, the Market Research Intern will help our organization learn more about the student population at Western. In this role, you will help keep a pulse on students' needs, gather feedback on events, programs and initiatives, and help analyze USC’s impact at Western. You will also provide direct support to various internal groups and committees through the creation and implementation of surveys or focus groups, and presenting research on student perspectives. About the Intern Program: The USC is excited to be offering full time internship roles beginning in June, 2025. Intern will have the opportunity to work on projects while contributing to improving the student experience for other Western students. This opportunity will only be available to those who are graduating from an undergraduate or professional program at Western this year, or those who are willing to take a year off from their undergraduate or professional level program. This position will be Monday-Friday and will require the successful candidate to be in the office on a full-time basis. Social Media Student Outreach Intern: Under the direction of the Promotions Manager, the Social Media Student Outreach Intern will engage and connect with students and the community through the USC’s social media channels. As a steward of the USC, the Social Media Outreach Intern will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to strategically create and execute communication plans that reflect the USC’s branding and goals to the student body. This often includes using in-person and digital marketing tactics alongside the Social Media Promotions & Mobilization Intern. In addition, the Social Media Student Outreach Intern will analyze and report on metrics related to the USC’s accounts, social media and marketing trends to provide constructive feedback as needed. Moreover, the chosen candidate will be responsible for maintaining and furthering the USC’s social media accounts using creative social media tactics and staying up to date on emerging trends. Productions Crew: The University Students’ Council at Western University is seeking Western students for part-time employment. The USC Productions Crew has the opportunity to directly impact student life and engagement at the University Students’ Council at Western University by participating in the execution of small- and large-scale events and programming.
