Role

The Vice President University Affairs of the USC is your advocate to the decision-makers. They bring up the issues that students face on a day-to-day basis at Western University. The Vice President’s team works on crafting evidence-based policy recommendations that work in the best interest for students, which the Vice President then advocates on, alongside the President, to enact change.

Vanessa Leung

Associate, Academic

The AVP Academic supports the Vice-President University Affairs in their mandate to represent the interests of all undergraduate students at Western University by conducting research; drafting; revising, and reviewing policy; assisting in the coordination of ongoing academic advocacy initiatives; and liaising with the USC’s Advocacy Services Department in accordance with the USC’s academic initiatives and priorities. The AVP Academic focuses on the university advocacy work that impacts academics. The priorities of this work includes, but is not limited to academic policy, work-integrated learning, improving academic counselling, open educational resources, and working with Senate on various academic initiatives.

Madison Milanczak

Associate, Student Experience

The AVP Student Experience supports the Vice-President University Affairs in their mandate to represent the interests of all undergraduate students at Western University by conducting research; drafting; revising, and reviewing policy; assisting in the coordination of ongoing advocacy initiatives; and liaising with the USC’s Advocacy Services Department in accordance with the USC’s internal initiatives and priorities. AVP Student Experience focuses on the university advocacy work that impacts student experience. The priorities of this work includes, but is not limited to equity, diversity and inclusion, sexual and gender-based violence prevention, mental health, sustainability and other ‘outside the classroom’ initiatives.

Alexis Magder

Associate, Wellness Equity

The AVP Wellness Equity manages and maintains the USC Wellness Hub, including all its programs, services and operations, not limited to: volunteer management; public education programming and advocacy; and space management. They oversee all logistical aspects of the Wellness Hub and work alongside other campus and community stakeholders in the program. Within the Wellness Hub portfolio, the AVP Wellness Equity manages the USC Community Pantry, USC Sexual Wellness Services, USC Upcycle Centre, and their respective Coordinators. In addition, the AVP Wellness Equity oversees the Wellness Hub Administrative Coordinator. Finally, the AVP Wellness Equity assists the Vice President University Affairs in the implementation of intersectional, equity-focused programming and advocacy projects for the student body.

Jenna Lam

Coordinator, Food Support Services

The Food Support Services Coordinator, works to reduce food insecurity on campus by providing quality and accessible food to students by administering the USC’s Food Bank. In addition to managing the USC Food Support Services, its food hamper system, and various food drives, the Coordinator educates students on food insecurity and addresses food-security stigma on campus through online and in-person campaigns and initiatives.

Coordinator, Recognition and Awards

Recognition and Awards Programs Coordinator leads the Student Recognition and Awards Committee to organize and publicize the program as well as facilitate awards selection and ceremonies.

Cathy Jian

Sexual Wellness Services

The Sexual Wellness Services Coordinator educates and promotes sexual health and wellness amongst the student body through advocacy, campaigns, and programming. They manage the USC’s free the dot. program (the USC’s free menstrual and sexual health products program); execute educational programming on the topic of sexual wellness; advocate for issues related to sexual and gender-based violence prevention and response that have been endorsed by the USC Council and/or Executive; and organize campaigns to break down the stigma associated with sexual health issues that affect students.

Coordinator, Student Development

The Student Development Coordinator oversees the USC Student Development Network and works towards providing students with programming and opportunities promoting professional development; civic engagement; and political education.

The Wellness Hub Administrative Coordinator assists the AVP Wellness Equity with administrative tasks related Community Pantry and Sexual Wellness Services volunteer schedules and volunteer event attendance; management of the USC Wellness Hub; and more as determined by the VP University Affairs and AVP Wellness Equity.
