USC STUDENT AWARDS

The University Students’ Council aims to reward those students who have put forth exemplary volunteer or community effort in the form of USC sponsored awards.

Below are the various award descriptions and the application link (when open).  The applications are generally open each year from mid-December to mid-January.

USC STUDENT AWARDS

15 awards available for a total value of $5,700. USC student employees (including Coordinators, Associates, Interns, and Board of Directors) are eligible to apply for the USC Student Awards.

All of the awards are due on February 25th at 5 PM.

Future of Western Award

Description: The Future of Western Award is presented annually to a full-time, first-year student leader who has excelled in two of the following areas: academics, student government, athletics, music or dance or fine arts, and philanthropy. Value: $250.00

Honour W Award

Description: The Honour W Award is presented annually to three (3) full-time undergraduate students at Western University. The award recognizes outstanding contribution to the community through volunteer service or extra-curricular activity, and academic achievement.

Student Athlete Award

Description: The Student Athlete Award is presented annually to a full-time undergraduate student athlete that demonstrates outstanding leadership and proficiency in their sport. Value: $400.00

Student Award of Merit

Description: The Student Award of Merit is presented annually to three (3) full-time undergraduate students who are not in their first year and have excelled in at least two of the following areas: academics, student government, athletics, music or dance or fine arts, and philanthropy. Value: $250.00

Student Artist Award – NEW

Description: The Student Artist Award is presented to a full-time undergraduate student that demonstrates creativity and passion for at least one of the following areas: music, dance, fine arts, literature, and humanities. Value: $250.00

Tracey Knight Memorial Award

Description: The Tracey Knight Memorial Award is presented annually to a full-time undergraduate student serving as a first-time Councillor on the University Students’ Council. A Councillor cannot nominate himself/herself.

USC Alumni Award

Description: The USC Alumni Award is awarded to two (2) full-time undergraduate students in any program, who are not in their graduating year. It is based on financial need and involvement in extracurricular activities at Western or in the community. Applicants must be eligible for OSAP as determined by the Office of the Registrar. Value: $1000.00

Service to Western Award

Description: The Service to Western Award is presented to a full-time undergraduate student who is in their graduating year. The award recognizes students who continuously work to create positive change in the campus community and who have had a profound impact on Western throughout their degree. Value: $300.00

Cultural Dedication Award – NEW

Description: The Student Artist Award is presented to a full-time undergraduate student that has positively impacted their cultural, ethnic, or religious community. Value: $250.00

USC IMPACT AWARDS

In line with the USC’s goal to increase equity, inclusion and accessibility, a series of “Impact Awards” have been introduced with the aim of recognizing the diverse student leaders who make our campus community great. These 6 new awards are aligned with our 7 Peer Programs, which aim to reflect identity-based sub-groups of Western’s student body. Students employed by the USC are not eligible to apply to ensure no unfair advantages of having relevant USC experience.

All of the awards are due on February 25th at 5 PM.

Accessible Leadership Impact Award

ARTS AND HUMANITIES SCHOLARSHIPS

In line with AHSC’s goals to combat inaccessibility and celebrate our beautiful and diverse Arts community, this year’s AHSC Bursaries have been introduced to recognize and financially support our students who face disproportionate obstacles while navigating university. We especially hope to recognize students with A&H-spirited passions for creativity, academia, or advocacy. These awards are funded through the Arts & Humanities Students’ Council budget, predominantly via student donations.

All of the awards are due on February 25th by Midnight

Sasha Doxtator Award

Description: Awarded to one (1) self-identified Indigenous student with Arts & Humanities as their home faculty (any year, any program). Particularly aimed toward students with passions for creativity, advocacy, astronomy, or academia. Value: $2000.00

Ivan Coyote Award

Description: Awarded to one (1) student who identifies as LGBTQIA2S+ and/or genderqueer with Arts & Humanities as their home faculty of study (any year, any program). Particularly aimed toward students with passions for creativity, advocacy, performance, or academia. Value: $2000.00

Eternity Martis Award

Description: Awarded to one (1) student who identifies as a BIPOC woman or BIPOC genderqueer student in Arts & Humanities (any year, any study). If no students who meet the entire criteria apply, this award will consider all BIPOC applicants. Particularly aimed toward students with passions for creativity, advocacy, journalism, or academia. Value: $2000.00

Generation Award

Description: Awarded to one (1) student who identifies themselves as being in financial need (relying heavily on loans and work to pay for their tuition), as being a first-generation university student (their parents did not attend university), or both. Students must have Arts & Humanities as their home faculty (any year, any program). Particularly aimed toward students with passions for creativity, advocacy, or academia. Priority will go toward financial need applicants. Value: $2000.00

Accessible Leadership Award

Description: Awarded to one (1) student who self-identifies as having a disability, learning exceptionality, and/or faces significant mental health barriers that impact the way they navigate the university. Students must be in Arts & Humanities (any year or program). Particularly aimed toward students with passions for leadership, creativity, advocacy, or academia. Value: $2000.00
