Orientation exists within Western University as the largest mental health initiative that we provide for incoming students. During one of the most stressful times for students transitioning to a new school, our Sophs provide mentorship and support that help students adapt and feel comfortable on campus. During Orientation Week, Sophs act as leaders to show students around campus, and lead them through activities and education sessions. Then, they act as year long resources for their students, continuing to be pillars of support, and connecting them to available resources and information on campus when they need it.
The Orientation program behaviour management system functions under a complaints-driven model. Any person may file a complaint against, or raise an issue involving, an orientation leader, Soph, or Soph team, where it is perceived that the individual(s) or group(s) acted in a manner not in compliance with the Orientation Leader Contract, constituency-specific contract(s), Western University’s Code of Student Conduct and Affiliated University College Codes of Student Conduct, and/or the spirit and goals of the Orientation program.
Complaints can be submitted in three ways:
- Through an online form found here: https://westernusc.forms-db.com/view.php?id=179959,
- To report a complaint in person, complainants can request an appointment by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
- Complaints may also be submitted through email to email@example.com. The complainant’s name, contact number and brief description of the concern must be included in the email.
For more information about how to submit a complaint, the investigation process, what possible infractions warrant a complaint, and/or how to submit an appeal, please read our Soph Behaviour Management Policy below.
The Orientation Operations Committee recognizes being a Soph comes with financial barriers. This Soph Financial Accommodation Form is meant to make participating in the Orientation Program more financially accessible to our campus leaders. While we would like to financially support all of our Sophs, our Soph Subsidy Fund for the year is limited and it is not guaranteed that you will receive any or all of the funding requested.
If you have any additional questions, please contact Shayna Kwiecinski, Finance Orientation Commissioner, at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
