Associates

Associate Vice Presidents are hired by each executive, and help oversee their specific portfolios operations and team. The AVPs serve as a right hand assistant to their VPs, and assist in the execution of their portfolio which allows the Executive and AVP to learn from one another to improve existing processes and give new perspectives.

Associate Roles

Support the Vice President External Affairs in their mandate to  represent the interests of all undergraduate students at Western University by conducting research; drafting, revising, and reviewing policy; assisting in the coordination of ongoing advocacy initiatives; and liaising with the USC’s Advocacy Services Department. Additionally, the AVP will support the Vice President External Affairs by assisting with preparation for meetings, events, and public engagements.

This role is focused on the work being done municipally, provincially and federally, including collaborative work through the Ontario Undergraduate Student Alliance (OUSA) and Undergraduates of Canadian Research-Intensive Universities (UCRU). The priorities of this work includes, but is not limited to transit, off-campus safety, sexual and gender-based violence prevention and response, and student finances & assistance.

The Associate Vice President Orientation & Programming supports the development and implementation of Orientation and all event-based programming in the programming portfolio. This includes supporting equity-based programming for Coordinators (Ethnocultural Support Services, EnviroUSC, Public Arts, and Health Promotions). Through the direction of the VPOP, the AVP will assist with facilitating and executing high level projects.

The USC Student Engagement portfolio exists to manage the organization’s student engagement endeavors, branding initiatives, ensuring alignment with the USC’s strategic plan and the priorities of the Executive Body. The portfolio is responsible for ensuring that students know who we are and what we do, and how we stay relevant.

The student engagement team employs a number of strategies to achieve our goals, including: campaigns, social media, student engagement initiatives, brand journalism, on and off campus media engagements.

Under the direction of the Vice-President Student Engagement, the AVP will support proactive engagement initiatives of the University Students’ Council. The AVP will be primarily responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing campaigns and initiatives, coordinating engagement across the organization and associated student councils. The AVP will provide direct support to the Campaigns Coordinator, Community and Collaboration Coordinator, and Brand Journalism Coordinators.

The AVP Student Services is expected to support the VPSS with the logistical operation of Clubs, and
Student-led services. The AVP Student Services will support the Clubs area of the portfolio. They will also provide support to the Coordinators executing Student-led Services (Early Outreach Conference, Food Support Services, and the Peer Support Centre). They will provide direction to the Grants and Recognition Coordinator, Gender Equity Network, Charity Coordinator and PrideUSC Coordinator as per the discretion of the VPSS.

The AVP University Affairs will support the Vice-President University Affairs in their mandate to represent the interests of all undergraduate students at Western University by conducting research; drafting; revising, and reviewing policy; assisting in the coordination of ongoing advocacy initiatives; and liaising with the USC’s Advocacy Services Department in accordance with the USC’s advocacy initiatives and priorities. The AVP will support the Academic Coordinator, Student Experience Coordinator, and Wellness Equity Coordinator.
