University Pharmacy Revised Hours
As announced on March 24th, all campus buildings are now closed and locked. Western University has since allowed the University Pharmacy to operate on reduced walk-in hours. Beginning tomorrow, the pharmacy will be open only on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00am to 1:00pm.
The pharmacy is committed to serving students and campus community members during this time. Prescriptions can be called in (519-661-4058) or faxed (519-661-4092) to the pharmacy by local physicians during regular business hours Monday to Friday. The pharmacy will also deliver prescriptions to customers’ homes in London for no additional fee. The University Pharmacy’s second location in Books Plus (Western Rd. & Sarnia Rd.) remains open Monday to Friday from 9:00am to 5:00pm.
The Canada Post storefront in the University Pharmacy is closed, effective immediately, including on Tuesday and Thursday mornings when the pharmacy is open for walk-ins. Any remaining packages will be held until the storefront reopens. Orders and shipments sent to the Canada Post storefront for pickup will be redirected to Canada Post in Masonville Place or Cherryhill Village Mall.

The USC has been working closely with Western University and the Middlesex-London Health Unit since January to assess the impact of COVID-19 on our campus community. The health and safety of all campus community members is our shared priority.
This webpage will provide information about COVID-19 as it relates to the USC’s programs, services, and operations. Our team will strive to update this page as soon as new information becomes available.

UCC Building Closure & Tenant Closure
Earlier this evening Western University announced that all buildings on campus (excluding residence buildings) would be closed and locked as of Wednesday, March 25th, 2020 for a minimum of 14 days. This change includes the University Community Centre (UCC) building. The building will not be accessible to any students or staff during the closure.
Our offices on the third floor of the UCC have been closed since Monday, March 16th, but some of our tenants have continued to serve students in the UCC basement at their discretion until today.
Effective immediately all tenants are forced to close their operation in the UCC. This includes the following USC tenants that remained open until today:
- Campus Vision
- Grocery Checkout
- UCC Pharmacy
- Western Salon
UCC Building Hours
Western University has informed the USC that the hours for the University Community Centre (UCC) building are changing, effective immediately. Throughout the academic year, the UCC is typically open 24 hours per day. The University has decided to close and lock the building between 8:00pm and 8:00am daily. Students should vacate the building after 8:00pm.
UCC Tenant Operations
While the USC offices remain closed and our team works to shift services and supports online wherever possible, some of our tenants continue to operate in the UCC basement. The following tenants are currently still open:

- Grocery Checkout
- UCC Pharmacy
- Western Salon
Tenants may choose to stay open so long as campus and the building remain open. The USC does not compel tenants to stay open, but many do provide essential services to our campus community. Circumstances are changing quickly and tenants may choose to close with little notice. Please call ahead before visiting their physical location and continue to avoid any non-essential activities.
Office and Operations Closure
In an effort to support social distancing and reduce non-essential in-person interactions, the USC office and our operations will be closed effective Monday, March 16th, 2020.
The Spoke, Wave, Purple Store, and Western Film will be closed for the remainder of the academic year.
Our physical office in the University Community Centre will be closed until further notice and until at least April 15th, 2020. Normal operations will be conducted digitally wherever possible.
The USC’s retail tenants in the basement of the UCC are permitted to remain open at their discretion as long as the university is open.
Our full-time staff will continue to be paid through at least April 15th. Our part-time student staff will be paid for all remaining scheduled shifts through March 31st.
The health and safety of our students and staff is our number one priority. Our executives and full-time staff are committed to providing the best support and services possible to our undergraduate student community given the current circumstances.
Our team has already begun the process of determining which of our services can be digitized and will spend the coming hours and days moving as many supports online as possible. Please continue to follow this webpage for details.
As a precautionary measure in response to the COVID-19, and to ensure the health and safety of our students, artists, and staff, the USC is postponing Purple Finale. We are currently working with the agency to plan a replacement concert as soon as possible.
All students who already purchased tickets will be issued a refund. Those who purchased tickets online through Eventbrite will be automatically refunded in the coming days. Information for those who purchased a hard ticket at Brescia or at the Purple Store will be posted on the Purple Finale event page on Facebook next week.
All Soph interviews scheduled for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday are cancelled. This includes both group interviews (in-person) and accommodated interviews (skype). All remaining applicants who have yet to participate in an interview will still be given an opportunity at a later date. OStaff will provide information to applicants about how and when these interviews will occur in the coming days.
Given this situation, Soph decisions will no longer be communicated as planned on March 18th. A revised offer date will be announced shortly.
Food Support Services (on-campus food bank)
The physical location for the USC’s Food Support Services (FSS, our on-campus food bank) is closed for the remainder of the year.
However, our digital food bank remains open. We are in the process of preparing general food hampers for any students in need. Food can be requested and picked up completely anonymously, via our online form. Students who request hampers will be sent a locker number and combination; all lockers will be in the UCC Building, which remains open.

The USC continues to assess the situation on campus following the announcement of class cancellations and online learning. We are all processing this change and what it means for our student community. Our team is committed to continuing to provide the best support possible to help our students adjust. We know that this is confusing, scary, and upsetting for many of our students – especially those graduating this year. Please know that we stand with you and are working hard to determine what supports and programming we can provide virtually over the coming weeks.

The Mustang Express (evening bus service from Richmond Row to student neighbourhoods) is suspended effective immediately. We expect this service will be cancelled for the remainder of the academic year. Given health advice from Western University and the Middlesex-London Health Unit, we are recommending that students avoid any unnecessary large gatherings, including nightlife where possible.
USC Student Leader Applications: Associate Vice Presidents, Coordinators, Interns
Applications for 2020/21 USC student leader positions, including Associate Vice Presidents, Coordinators, and Interns that were originally scheduled to close tonight will be extended until Sunday, March 15th at 11:59pm.
All interviews will be conducted virtually. Information regarding virtual interviews will be shared with candidates by the end of next week. There will not be a requirement for any applicants to be on campus for the interview process.

The USC is closely monitoring the situation on campus and is in regular communication with Western’s administration. We understand that the cancellation of extracurricular activities and the move to online education will have a major impact on our campus community. This situation is unprecedented in our university’s history; we can only adapt to this new reality if everyone in our community is as patient and cooperative as possible.

As campus remains open at this time, our operations will be open as scheduled tomorrow, Friday, March 13th. The Spoke, The Wave, the Purple Store, and Western Film will all operate regular hours. The USC office will be open from 8:30am to 4:30pm. We will provide an update tomorrow (Friday) on future schedules of our operations and our office.
Bookings and Reservations
All USC space reservations for the Wave, Spoke, UCC Atrium, McKellar Room, Community Room, conference rooms, and other USC-controlled spaces will be cancelled. All groups will be issued a refund for any fees already paid.
We will not be accepting any further space reservations for this academic year at this time.
Any individual or organization who has an existing space reservation from today until April 30, 2020 will be contacted by the USC’s reservations team. It may take our team up to three business days to contact everyone who has an existing reservation; thank you in advance for your patience and understanding.

At this time, the UCC’s tenants are permitted to continue their operations as usual. We will continue to work with our tenants to reassess health and safety related to tenant spaces and provide an update by tomorrow (Friday).

Core USC Programs and Events
Consistent with the university’s announcement this afternoon, all scheduled USC programs and events are cancelled until further notice. This includes any USC-sanctioned program or event, both on and off-campus. We are currently working with relevant stakeholders including the university, faculty councils, affiliate councils, and USC student leaders to evaluate the impact on individual programs and events.
Information regarding specific events and programs will be shared on Pages and Event Pages as details are finalized.
Following Western’s announcement prohibiting events with over 50 attendees, all USC club events open to the public are cancelled effective immediately. This applies to both on- and off-campus events.
We understand that many of our clubs have put substantial effort into events, formals, and fashion shows over the last several months. We ask that impacted clubs find a way to deliver these events virtually or postpone their scheduled events until further notice.
In light of this situation, we will not be requiring our clubs to hold an in-person Annual General Meeting during the month of March. We ask that all of our clubs find a way to deliver these events digitally. Normal requirements for open nominations and voting via Western Link will still apply.
We understand that this announcement will put many of our clubs in a difficult situation; we are as disappointed as you are about this situation. We are committed to providing flexible support to assist each of our 200 clubs on a case-by-case basis. We thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation.

As of 3:00pm this afternoon, Western has advised that all on campus events with over 50 people must be cancelled, postponed, or offered virtually. We are assessing all of our upcoming programs and events that this announcement will impact. We will provide more information on our social media channels and website as soon as possible.
We are committed to working with all impacted USC groups and student leaders on a case-by-case basis to find flexible solutions that minimize the negative impact of this unfortunate situation.
