The University Students’ Council issued the following statement this afternoon regarding the deaths of four Western students aboard Ukraine International Flight PS752, early this morning:

The USC has learned that Western is aware of four students who have died in the crash of Ukrainian International Airlines Flight PS752 in Iran last night. We are heartbroken by the loss of our students and all other passengers on board the flight. Our thoughts go out to all those impacted by this tragic event.

Please look out for your peers during this difficult time as we mourn this loss as a community. The USC’s Peer Support Centre is open Monday to Friday from 10:00am until 4:00pm for drop-in peer support for any interested students.

Students are welcome to gather in Western International’s Chu Centre in the International and Graduate Affairs Building (IGAB) until 9:00pm tonight, where grief counselling support will be available. Please consider attending a memorial gathering at 5:00pm in the IGAB Atrium.

As always, students can access drop-in crisis counselling in Student Health Services (UCC 11) from 9:00am to 7:00pm Monday-Thursday.

We have decided to cancel our State of the USC address that was originally scheduled for 7:00pm tonight. Please follow our channels for details about rescheduling.
